Going to Try Making Soft Pretzels

Written by andrea on February 23rd, 2009

Later this week, Wednesday specifically, I am going to make my first batch of homemade soft pretzels.  The Food Netwrok’s Alton Brown made soft pretzels on one of his shows so I found that recipe and plan to give it a try.  One difficulty I have during winter is making bread because you have to have a warm area to let bread dough rise.  Well, Dave & I keep our home pretty chilly during the winter and finding a warm location for rising bread dough can be hard.  But I’m going to give pretzels a try!

HI, Try turning your oven on warm, then turn it off and proof the bread in there. I also run my dishwasher on the last rinse cycle wait till it is done dripping and proof bread in there in the winter. It should raise up in about an hour. We keep our house very cool in the winter too. I don’t like the heat!!!!

I never thought of the dishwasher! I tried the oven once, but I guess I had it on too high and the outside of the dough became very dry. But the dishwasher is a great idea. Thank you!

Later I thought about the drips in the dishwasher, take a towel and dry the top rack off real quick.
When you do the oven, turn it on the lowest temp. and mix the dough, then turn it off. If the rack burn your finger, it is to hot. lol. I just made 3 loaves today 2 for friends and 1 for us. They furnish the flour for the bread, can’t beat that. Take care, love ya.
