I always say to John, “up you go”, when I pick him up. So the other day he started saying something that I finally figured out was “up you go” when he wanted picked up. It is so cute. He’ll run over to me and say, “up you go” and want to be carried.

John’s New Phrase
Sunday, July 10th, 2011Beautiful July Day
Wednesday, July 6th, 2011It is hot outside, but it was still a nice and productive day. The first thing this morning I took an Excedrin. I had a caffeine headache anyway (drank a bunch of soda over the weekend), but the caffeine in the Excedrin was just enough to wake me up all the way. I think I was meant to be a coffee drinker, but never developed a taste for the stuff. I’d probably have to put so much sugar/chocolate/cream etc in the stuff and it would defeat the purpose. And it really is too hot for me to drink hot tea. Iced tea has too little caffeine, unless maybe I haven’t done my research and maybe there is a great “get ya up and goin’ ” tea out there…have to look into it.
John bathed while I cleaned the bathroom. Our bathroom is pretty tiny so my eyes never actually leave him, so in case mom is reading…John is well watched while bathing. I also decided to get rid of the bathroom’s current decor during our upcoming garage sale. So I took all the wall hangings down, dusted them and set them aside for the sale. We are planning to paint the bathroom woodwork all white this summer so now I’ve got a clean slate from which to work.
I took care of a bunch of laundry, even hung some out to dry on the clothesline. John and I scrubbed the rod iron railing outside readying it for spray painting tomorrow. John took it upon himself to scrub the steps and rid them of some moss growing on them. John LOVES playing in water so I let him play with the hose while also watering the tomato plants.
Dinner was in the oven, again with John’s assistance, even before Dave came home from work. That was very nice. So all in all a productive, nice day.
John’s new phrase is: “up you go” when he wants to get picked up. I always say, “up you go” when I got to pick him up so it is too cute that he says that instead of “up” like other kids.

Saturday, May 14th, 2011John at 18 Months (well, actually 19)
Tuesday, March 8th, 2011So John had his 18 month check-up yesterday. It was a month late due to circumstances so he is actually 19 months as of Sunday. Little guy is doing great. He is 26 lbs and 34.5 inches tall and right on track otherwise. Dave was able to make it to the appointment too and that was nice. We’ll post a recent picture here pretty soon.
Cloudy Day
Tuesday, October 5th, 2010There is mega construction going on today on the street in front of us. They are putting in new water pipes down the middle of the road. So it was a good opportunity to take John outside to see the big construction vehicles. Surprisingly, the construction is REALLY loud right now, but John’s been asleep for an hour BY HIMSELF! WooHoo! I’ve actually checked email, read a couple of blogs, and am now actually updating our blog.
Some of you know that back a zillion years ago during college I was a daycare teacher and then a Pre-K teacher. So why is it that I have run out of ideas for things to do with John?? He’s too young for a lot of stuff, but he’s certainly old enough for other stuff, but I’ve absolutely run out of ideas. I think he’s getting bored and winter is quickly coming upon. I need indoor fun stuff ideas ASAP! Doing a basic internet search gets me no where. I’d love to find a couple of blogging mommies with cool ideas for the younger set. I’ve got gads of ideas for the 2+ era, but I need stuff for the 13-24 month zone.
Howdy! Ya Know How It Gets Sometimes…
Thursday, July 1st, 2010Well, once again I had a break from blogging. If our dear little one napped solo, I’d be on here probably daily, but we’re not there again. But that’s okay. Speaking of our little dear, he’s going to be one so very soon. He’s 10 months and 4 weeks right now.
I think this weekend we’re going to zip up to Maine for the day. John’s been to five of the New England states, but he’s missing Maine so we’ll get that in before his first birthday. He’s been to a whole lot more states before his first birthday than either Dave or I, that’s for sure.
Well, I’ d like to go spend the rest of my evening with hubbie and John so bye for now. But know we are all doing well.
I Took His Hand and Followed
Saturday, April 10th, 2010I Took His Hand and Followed
Mrs. Roy L. Peifer
My dishes went unwashed today,
I didn’t make the bed,
I took his hand and followed
Where his eager footsteps led.
Oh yes, we went adventuring,
My little son and I…
Exploring all the great outdoors
Beneath the summer sky
We waded in a crystal stream,
We wandered through a wood…
My kitchen wasn’t swept today
But life was gay and good.
We found a cool, sun-dappled glade
And now my small son knows
How Mother Bunny hides her nest,
Where jack-in-the-pulpit grows.
We watched a robin feed her young,
We climbed a sunlit hill…
Saw cloud-sheep scamper through the sky,
We plucked a daffodil.
That my house was neglected,
That I didn’t brush the stairs,
In twenty years, no one on earth
Will know, or even care.
But that I’ve helped my little boy
To noble manhood grow,
In twenty years, the whole wide world
May look and see and know.
Sleeping Babe
Thursday, April 8th, 2010John is napping on our bed, has been for an hour. He’s such a terrific baby. So sweet, quick to smile, happy, rarely fussy and never fussy without a purpose, be it because he’s sleepy or hungry. And he’s so beautiful. I know you aren’t supposed to say a baby boy is beautiful, nor is his own mama supposed to say such things, but he really is a beautiful little guy. He’s got such wonderful bright blue eyes too. God really did give us a miracle when He gave us John.
And everyday I pray I don’t mess up raising him. I know a parent can’t be perfect, but I sure would like to not mess up too badly. I pray daily for God’s grace to know what to do, how to do it and how best to be what John needs to be a healthy, vibrant, kind, caring person.
Today we are headed out early to have lunch with Dave and visit with Dave’s co-workers. They haven’t seen him in several months and he certainly has changed a lot! He’s grown and developed so much since they’ve seen him. He can crawl now. He wants to walk so badly though. He crawls a short distance, then tries to stand getting his legs straight but not knowing what to do next. Then he goes back to crawling or scooting.
