New Computer

Written by andrea on May 3rd, 2011

I haven’t been online much lately because our old computer had become a dinosaur.  It was soooo slow and it took forever to do the smallest thing.  But yesterday our new computer arrived!!!!  Yeah!!

Maple Sugaring Season is in Full Swing, Finally

Written by andrea on March 12th, 2011

We’ve been greatly delayed by the enormous snowfall we’ve had this winter, but the maple sugaring season is finally underway!  For the longest time Dave couldn’t even get into the woods due to the depth of snow to tap trees.  The past few weeks has resulted in a whole lot of snow melt so slowly he’s been able to get into our different tapping locations and tap trees.  Today we collected a whole lotta sap!!  Tomorrow we’ll have a roaring fire in the evaporator and finally get to making the commodity of our family business.

While Dave was out collecting sap all over the countryside, John and I worked in the sugarhouse finishing some much needed organizing and cleaning.  Critters always manage to get into the sugarhouse during the winter and make nest of every scrap imaginable.  So now it is totally cleaned and reorganizing.  Of course, I did the organizing so poor Dave is going to be forever finding things in there.  John was great while I was busy.  He wondered around just outside the sugarhouse and played at poking leftover snowbanks with various tools he’d raid from inside.

Promotion!

Written by andrea on March 12th, 2011

On Friday evening, Dave came up with wonderful news.  He got a much deserved (my word & opinion!) promotion at work.  His new boss is pretty awesome.  He has only been there a short few weeks, but went to the next person in the hierarchy and said he thought Dave deserved this promotion.  The answer was an immediate, “I agree”.  So that was pretty fantastic!!

Lenten Plans

Written by andrea on March 8th, 2011

Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday and thus the beginning of Lent.  Dave and I are actually ahead of the game, for once.  We’ve actually discussed our Lenten plans BEFORE Lent began!  WHOO-HOO!!  As a family we are going to say the Rosary every evening…a habit we also hope to care through outside the Lenten Season.  We are also going to purge the house of all the silly clutter and extras we have piled up everywhere.  In other words, we’re going to have a spring cleaning on steroids.

We are also hoping to get back to some of the simpler ideals we hold great value in, but fail regularly to follow through with.  Maybe more on that as time passes.

Fat Tuesday

Written by andrea on March 8th, 2011

This evening we went to Dave’s parents’ house for a lovely dinner of roast beef w/ horseradish, Irish soda bread, mashed squash, mashed potatoes and a side salad.  After dinner we had a homemade apple pie!  YUMMY!  A fantastic Fat Tuesday was had by all.

John at 18 Months (well, actually 19)

Written by andrea on March 8th, 2011

So John had his 18 month check-up yesterday.  It was a month late due to circumstances so he is actually 19 months as of Sunday.  Little guy is doing great.  He is 26 lbs and 34.5 inches tall and right on track otherwise.  Dave was able to make it to the appointment too and that was nice.  We’ll post a recent picture here pretty soon.

A New Year’s Resolution

Written by andrea on January 9th, 2011

So Dave and I want to do a better job of keeping this blog.  One step was to update and get our photo gallery working again, which Dave has just accomplished.  Feel free to go check it out again.  It is updated through November 2010 as of right now.

Just a Few Posts Ago…

Written by andrea on December 6th, 2010

I wrote that we were going to do a better job celebrating feast days.  I’ve failed utterly.

We got back from a long Thanksgiving vacation when it was already 2nd Sunday of Advent.  I missed my big opportunity to start out the new Church year with a bang celebrating Advent.  Yes, I still technically have time, but I’m bummed and disappointed in myself for not being better organized.  I’m such an all or nothing person.  My desire is to do it well and big or not at all.  And thus I’m mad at myself for not being better prepared and even trying to “do Advent” while out on our vacation.

Considering we really want to raise John in a Catholic environment at home and church, I’m doing a blah job of things thus far.

By the way, we had a really nice vacation and it was great to see everyone we got to see.  I am very thankful for a safe trip and awesome family and friends.

God Bless!

Three Day Weekend

Written by andrea on October 12th, 2010

We had a spectacular three day weekend.  Saturday we went out early and visited about 10 yard sales between our town and West Hartford.  We found a few good items, but the day and the drive was really awesome.  Sunday after church we went for another drive and found an area kind of recently opened to the public on some lumber company’s property.  There we some great views there.  Monday we kind of stuck around the house and accomplished a few things.  It was a really wonderful family-oriented weekend.  And the weather couldn’t have been nicer.

Cloudy Day

Written by andrea on October 5th, 2010

There is mega construction going on today on the street in front of us.  They are putting in new water pipes down the middle of the road.  So it was a good opportunity to take John outside to see the big construction vehicles.  Surprisingly, the construction is REALLY loud right now, but John’s been asleep for an hour BY HIMSELF!  WooHoo!  I’ve actually checked email, read a couple of blogs, and am now actually updating our blog.

Some of you know that back a zillion years ago during college I was a daycare teacher and then a Pre-K teacher.  So why is it that I have run out of ideas for things to do with John??  He’s too young for a lot of stuff, but he’s certainly old enough for other stuff, but I’ve absolutely run out of ideas.  I think he’s getting bored and winter is quickly coming upon.  I need indoor fun stuff ideas ASAP!  Doing a basic internet search gets me no where.  I’d love to find a couple of blogging mommies with cool ideas for the younger set.  I’ve got gads of ideas for the 2+ era,  but I need stuff for the 13-24 month zone.
