Growing Boy

Written by andrea on September 28th, 2009

John is officially outgrowing his 0-3 month sleepers.  I put him in a little sleeper and his poor little legs couldn’t extend fully so I guess that’s my cue to put them away.  Most of his 3-6 month clothes are comically big on him right now, but I know that in the coming weeks he will even start to full those out too.

Today John sat in his little rocker/infant seat while I held board books in front of him and read.  He actually stayed “interested” for about 30 minutes.  When I’d change the page, he’d get excited and kick his feet.  I think he was enjoying the different bright colors.

Right now, I’ve got him laying down in his crib watching his mobile while he’s “exercising” his little arms and legs.  He likes doing that for about 10-20 minutes at a stretch, but we can only get 1-2 sessions of that out of him per day before he gets pretty bored.  He’s actually getting annoyed now so I’d better end this blog entry now.

John is Seven Weeks Old

Our Sweet Little John

Our Sweet Little John

Wow!  Dave and I have had an amazing seven weeks with our little man.  John is such a joy.  And that picture above is 2 weeks old because he’s lost all his hair in the past two weeks and we now have a bald baby.  Funny thing is that his new hair is already starting to grow in.

He came into this world via an unexpected fashion (c-section) and we had some trouble in the beginning keeping weight on the little fellow.  He was born 9 lbs and 8 oz, but too quickly dropped to 8lbs.  Some weight disappears off newborns anyway, but his percentage was just too high.  We learned from a lactation consultant that he wasn’t able to nurse properly so I had to stop breastfeeding and go to pumping.  For the last 5 weeks I’ve been pumping and then supplementing what I’m unable to provide with formula.  And has John ever flourished!  He was 10lbs and 12oz at his one month appointment!  And I know for a fact the little guy has added beyond that now.  He even looks bigger to Dave and I, and we see him everyday.

I’m still not getting much accomplished aside from pumping, feeding, changing and hopefully nuturing John.  Hopefully the house doesn’t fall down around our ears, but I guess household chores must at some point become something I can do again someday.  Once he is on more of a schedule I think life will become more normalized again, I guess.

John is not sleeping through the night or anything yet.  He still awakens every 2-4 hours for feedings.  But even that is becoming almost predicable.  He awakens around midnight, around 3 and around 6 (which also means 11:30, 2, 4 and 6 are still possibilities too, hehehe).

Today I was putting on a little outfit one of my Great Aunts purchased for him that says “Caution I might spit up” and has a cute little bald baby pictured.  No joke, I was snapping the last snap and the caution came true.  It was like he knew how to read.

Dave will probably be adding photos here to the blog frequently.  So check out the pictures section at least once a month and you’ll get to see our little man as he grows.  He is such a fantastic little baby.  We are absolutely in awe of him continuously.

Sorry for the lack of posts

Written by andrea on September 13th, 2009

Hi Everyone!

Dave here.  Sorry for the lack of posts lately, but I’m sure that everyone will understand that it has been an interesting few weeks as both Andrea and I adjust to our new life with John.  We are slowly getting into a routine and John is started to adapt as well.

There have been so many things to share about what has happened in the past month and I’m sure that Andrea will be sharing some of them here in the coming weeks.  I’ve done my part and have uploaded a series of pictures from August to the photo gallery for everyone to see.  I’m hoping that this will fill the void that the lack of posts has created.

God Bless and I hope that everyone is well!

More Pictures and Information to Come

Written by andrea on August 19th, 2009

Sorry everyone, but our new little bundle of joy has been my only focus lately so I’ve neglected to give details or get out more pictures.  I will very soon!!  Promise!  I’m pretty much healed from the c-section, but still have two more weeks and a few days to go before I’m allowed to drive again.  And we’re still working on getting breastfeeding down pat, but we’re slowly getting there.  John is an absolute sweetheart of a baby and such a cutie pie.

Tomorrow

Written by andrea on August 5th, 2009

I’m scheduled for a c-section tomorrow morning.  The baby just never engaged and my cervix never softened even a little bit.  It is disappointing that I cannot have the baby naturally, but as my midwife said, this baby is telling them it can’t be born vaginally for some physiological reason.  The baby is potentially pretty big and just too large for my pelvis.

Dave will probably post something on here tomorrow, unless he can’t get a wireless signal at the hospital.  Otherwise, we’ll get something up here ASAP.

We’re gonna have a bouncing baby tomorrow!!!! YEAH!

Thank you for all your prayers!

41 Weeks

Written by andrea on August 3rd, 2009

Well, 41 weeks and no baby news yet.  Baby and I seem to still be doing fine.  My body aches like crazy by the end of the day, but nothing unbearable.  Dave & I are doing everything we can to jump start labor, but to no avail yet.

Hopefully, we’ll have news very, very, very soon!

Cold Pack for Baby Boo-boos

Written by andrea on July 31st, 2009

Okay, I am not normally one to purchase plastic silliness, but these little “Peas Cold Therapy” packs actually sound like a legitimately useful item to have on hand with a little kiddo.   I’ll have to watch for them to be on sale at CVS.

Stack N’ Smile Photo Blocks

Written by andrea on July 31st, 2009

Just another idea for something I want to remember.

I have this paranoia that our child, while very young, will not know his/her grandparents, aunt & uncle, cousins and extended family back in IL upon sight.  So when I saw an ad for these “stack n smile photo blocks” I thought what a perfect idea is might be to have something like that for our kiddo.

Having this soft little block the baby can safely slobber on, chew on, and look at to remember what my parents look like sounds pretty cool!

Portable Placemat

Written by andrea on July 31st, 2009

I’ve been pouring through the zillion baby related magazines that have flooded our home during the past nine months.  They came from all sorts of sources and have some neat ideas, but where on earth do you keep track of an idea you might have for a future use without clogging your house with paper…yup, our blog, cuz it has a cool, easy to use category function!!

So every once and a while I’m going to post about something on here that I either thought was a good idea, a neat product to purchase in the future or just something I want to remember.  And hey, it might be useful info for someone else too.

I found this ad for a portable placemat that I thought was pretty neat.  Not necessarily something I want to buy, but maybe something to try sewing down the road.  I always watch infants take those paper placemats at restaurants and with one hand whoosh the food and fragile placemat onto the floor.  So the thought of having something more substantial, washable and potentially less likely to end up on the floor sounds good. Plus, I’m all for reusable, washable stuff!
