I’ve been making more homemade baby foods for John. With all three items (sweet potatoes, carrots and pears), I just boiled them in water, drained most of the water (saving some for thinning the puree as necessary), and zapped them in the food processor. I put them in ice cube trays, froze them, and later placed the cubes in freezer bags. I take out as many cubes as necessary for each of John’s meals.
John is 6 months old!!
Written by andrea on February 8th, 2010Okay, so I think my last blog was that John was napping on his own….yeah that happened like for a whole one day. He’s sleeping right now solo, but I don’t know how long that will last so I’ll be quick.
John is 18 pounds now and 27 inches long! We took tons of pictures of him the other day so I’ll see if I can get Dave to post some of them this week.
John is just doing so well and he’s such a precious little guy. Just the sweetest thing ever to us. He even gives kisses, albeit really slobbery wet kisses all over my cheeks.
Five Months Old Today!
Written by andrea on January 6th, 2010John at 5 months
John is 5 Months old today! And what an amazing and awesome little guy he is! Right now he’s laying in his crib, tugging on his feet (trying to chew on them), all while squealing all sorts of different noises…oh, yeah and occasionally sneezing. John got his first cold on the first day of the New Year.
He’s not really sleeping on his own for naps yet. I had him close to doing that before the holidays, but with travel and different daily schedules, things got out of sync for him. And then when I was ready to try getting him to nap on his own again, he got a cold and became slightly clingy for a few days. So maybe next week we’ll try again.
You should hear the sounds this little man makes. Everything from outright screams and yells to little squeaks and squeals. It’s too funny listening to him. We’ve got to get it on video. He only really goes all out with the vocalizations when laying on the changing table or laying by himself in the crib. He’s really pretty quiet sometimes. And he has the cutest little giggle when you tickle him just right.
John also absolutely loves his Daddy! He just gives him a huge smile when ever he sees him. And if he hears his voice he is instantly trying to find him.
Four Months Old, Baptized & Currently Napping!!
Written by andrea on December 7th, 2009Okay, so the reason I’ve been gone so long is that my dear, sweet baby boy naps beautifully…while resting in my arms. So I’ve spent the better part of four months sitting in a chair holding my sleeping babe (and loving every minute, so don’t think this is a complaint!). John has not proven himself a good napper when resting by himself, until today. We’re forty minutes into a nap where he’s sleeping in another room and I’m doing something else.
John is such an fantastic baby, even if I have had to hold him for naps. So even tempered and has a wonderful disposition. We were amazingly blessed with this little fellow. He was four months old on Sunday.
His baptism was November 8th and turned out beautifully. My parents were able to attend from IL, which was really nice. We had almost Dave’s entire family in attendance too. We’ll get photos posted here pretty soon.
It has been a perfectly lovely four months with John. I’ve really been able to enjoy my time with him so it isn’t strange that he’s four months old. What’s strange is that it is almost Christmas. Good golly, wasn’t it just August, hot, still summertime and I was bringing home a brand new babe. Dave & I are not even decorating the house this year because we are heading to IL for Christmas plus, the season sprang upon us out of nowhere somehow.
On Sunday a woman came up to me and said I must have the most popular baby in church. She’d been watching how many people stopped to talk to John. Mostly it is older ladies. John’s got this cute little smile he’ll give anyone with a higher pitched voice (aka women). He generally gets passed around more than the collection basket, but he seems to love it. It has been amazing to watch how much of a blessing John is to not just Dave & I, but to others he encounters as well. I think part of it is that Dave & I do not use the car seat as an infant carrier like other people do. That seat is just too heavy, for one, and besides, he’s a baby and needs to be held, not stuffed in a car seat and carted around by a handle. We actually had a woman thank us for not using the car seat as a carrier. She said, “people use those things and you never get to see the baby until they are walking around by themselves.” We agreed.
Because John is sleeping and not in my arms, I’m actually finding myself unable to figure out what to do with my time right now. For one, I don’t know how long John will remain napping by himself; so do I start something only to have to stop in a few minutes?? Secondly, I don’t know how much noise he’ll tolerate and remain sleeping. Free time to myself and I can’t even think what to do…
Well, if this new napping trend that began today continues, you’ll see me here more frequently!
Baptism
Written by andrea on October 30th, 2009John will be baptized November 8th at our church. My parents were able to make a trip here in November so we were able to set the date to coincide with their visit. Pretty cool! I’m still working on details like where to have a luncheon afterward, but it is good to at least have a date.
Meeting Some More Family
Written by andrea on October 5th, 2009So over the weekend John got to meet the New York contingency of his family. It was so nice for Dave’s NY brother’s family to get to meet John too. They really enjoyed him.
This weekend we also went to Dave’s parent’s church picnic which was a lot of fun. Afterward, we went for a brief drive around our area leaf peeping. The day was overcast, but it was still beautiful to see.
Hmmm, I’m holding John and he’s already pushing keyboard keys on me. Speaking of John, we’ve got his 2 month appointment tomorrow. I’m excited to see how much he’s grown in the past month. He’s really getting so big lately.
Well, John’s interest in sitting here watching me type is waning.
Blessing to the Old Ladies
Written by andrea on October 2nd, 2009Dave and I can’t stand using the car seat as a carrier for John. It’s bulky, heavy and horribly annoying so we carry John most places or I put him in a wrap “wearing him”. At church though we always just carry him. We’ve decided that because apparently most of the new parents put their new babies in car seats people never get to see them or hold them. And because of that we have hypothesized that it is the reason John gets so much attention at church.
All the older gals that were so sweet while I was pregnant are now doting on John like crazy. He gets so much attention from them. They all ooh and ahhh and ask to hold him. They cuddle him and love on him. It is so sweet.
Yesterday I went back to Bible Study for the first time since about 5 weeks before I had John. There is an old gal there that suffers greatly from physical degeneration and is kind of a sourpuss. I brought John in and he was an instant hit. He also was immediately taken from my arms to be held. Someone gave John to the sour lady. She totally monopolized him after that. He fell asleep in her arms and she just hung on, even though I offered to take him so she could rest her arms. I’ve never heard her say much of anything positive, but after holding John she talked about how cuddly he was and how good it felt to hold a baby.
He’s such a blessing to all these ladies and to others. My hope and prayer is that he is forever a blessing to those he encounters. He sure is our little blessing that’s for positive!!
