So Glad It Is Still Spring!

Written by admin on April 9th, 2012

I’m so glad it is still spring, because I’m not done with spring cleaning yet.  The living room is looking pretty good.  It is completely organized!  I still need to finish washing the curtains and a few other hings though  The rest of the house is still in need of finishing.

Dave & I had a discussion over the weekend and decided to get our buns busy getting some weight off.  We’re going to start walking and I’m going to rework our menu.  We were looking at some of the calories on a few things we eat regularly and were amazed.

I borrowed Everyday Food Light from the library and have written down some recipes we’re going to be trying.  I figured two new recipes per two week menu cycle was enough.  So this cycle we’re trying herb-butter chicken cutlets and a salmon burger recipe.  Both look really yummy.

I made my first cake from scratch this weekend; including the frosting.  It turned out really great.  It was Alton Brown’s recipe for Carrot Cake with his frosting recipe.  It wasn’t really pretty because I still haven’t figured out how to frost a cake beautifully, but it sure was tasty.

A New Goal & A Spring Cleaning Update

Written by admin on March 30th, 2012

I have a new goal: to get dress to my shoes immediately in the morning.

On weekdays, my little kiddo does not like it when I take showers…can’t stand those 8 minutes he’s got to play by himself.  So I end up waiting to shower during his nap.  This has, in the past, meant that I am in my pajamas until almost 2PM.  Now I don’t know about anyone else, but I am not inclined to be very active while in my pajamas.

So instead of staying in my pajamas for hours everyday.  I am going to get dressed, including my shoes in the morning.  I know this sounds kind of a-duh, but it wasn’t something I was doing everyday.  And I need to change that because I feel better and more “put together” dressed.

Spring cleaning is going well.  I’m not entirely sure I’m going to make Easter Sunday for completion, which was my goal.  Dave and I have been working on the attic, which originally wasn’t on my agenda for spring cleaning.  I’m glad we’ve been tending to it though.  We’ve actually gone through every box and gotten rid of so much stuff.  Problem is that we’ve been bringing boxes into our living room to go through them so we’ve got a couple of stray items in the living room delaying my work in that room.

Dining Room, Spring Cleaning

Written by admin on March 14th, 2012

Not a horrible room to deal with, but it doubles as our “library” so there is a lot of dusting books.

  • Go through little green dresser
  • Go through desk
  • Sweep/mop floor
  • Dust all bookshelves
  • Set-up a little sewing area
  • Dust/vacuum radiators
  • Dust picture frames
  • Dust woodwork
  • Put away stray items I no longer want in this room
  • Set-up a small sewing area

Pantry, Spring Cleaning

O, this one is a monster.  I plan to completely empty the room and start from scratch.  Instead of trying to list off the stuff that must be done, it might be easier to make the list as I complete them in this room.  Pretty much all of our dishes and food stuffs are in here.

  • Empty spice cabinet
  • Throw away old spices
  • Rearrange spice cabinet

Beautiful Day

Written by admin on March 14th, 2012

It is March 14th, and it is spectacular outside.  Thank goodness I am a stay-at-home mom because if I worked in a building on a day like today I would get nothing done.  I remember going to school and working on days like today.  I’d sit and stare out a window or totally daydream.  But instead, I am perfectly where I wish to be, at home with my son, and I’m taking care of business.  All while getting to enjoy the outside too!  Yeah!

Spring cleaning is coming along.  I still hope to have it done before Easter too!  Another Yeah!

This is probably one of the easier rooms to spring clean. So I think this is where I will begin!

  • Wash the curtains
  • Vacuum/dust window sills
  • Wipe down woodwork around windows
  • Wipe down doors (there are 2)
  • Straighten & dust bookshelves
  • Dust and straighten mantle
  • Thoroughly vacuum
  • Maybe do a little furniture rearranging
  • Vacuum furniture
  • Polish wood furniture
  • Put more of John’s board books away
  • Dust all picture frames
  • Dust/Vacuum radiators
  • Wash our “cuddle up” blankets

Spring Cleaning, Revisited, Again

Written by admin on February 28th, 2012

In years past I have utterly failed to finish spring cleaning.  I’m talking about one of those deep down cleaning to the very core of the house.  Sure the house gets cleaned…but we’ve lived here almost 6 years and it is time for a good honest cleaning.  And I want to finish it during Lent so that when Easter arrives it feels like the house has had a resurrection too!

So I think I’ll make a list of each room, list the cleaning projects and get busy since I’ve already allowed a week of Lent to lapse.
